Unarmed Special Police Officer (SPO)

Position Summary

We are seeking highly motivated and professional individuals to join our team as an Unarmed Special Police Officer (SPO) in Washington, D.C. An SPO is a privately commissioned law enforcement officer with full arrest powers within the specific property or area they are employed to protect. This role is ideal for dedicated professionals who possess strong customer service and de-escalation skills and are committed to maintaining a secure environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned areas of responsibility for suspicious behavior, unauthorized access, or disruptions
  • Identify and report potential suspicious activities or public safety concerns
  • Support emergency response procedures and evacuation protocols as directed
  • Maintain a high-visibility, low-disruption security presence throughout the event
  • Operate radios and follow communications protocols for real-time coordination
  • Provide customer service to our clients by carrying out safety and security procedures, site-specific policies and when appropriate, emergency response activities
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem solving manner
  • Conduct regular and random patrols around the business and perimeter. Working environments and conditions may vary by client site

All officers will complete pre-event training covering venue layout, SOPs, radio protocols, protest response, de-escalation techniques, and emergency planning. Officers are required to remain alert, presentable, and in their designated zones unless reassigned by the SST Leader. Security Officers are, however, authorized to protect themselves and the life of someone facing imminent danger.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess an active, valid D.C. Unarmed Special Police Officer license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Be of good moral character, as determined by a criminal background investigation. Certain felony or misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying
  • Be certified by a licensed physician as physically and psychologically fit to perform the duties of an SPO
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language fluently
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Experience in security, corrections, or law enforcement is preferred but not required
  • Proof of training/certifications

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, and patrol for extended periods
  • Capability to perform duties requiring moderate physical exertion
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including outdoors in inclement weather
